Plan and write a Task 2 essay

Why: your last essay's feedback named one thing to fix first.

How it works

From understanding the test to your next step

The same four steps in every skill, so you always know what you are doing and why.

  1. Step 1

    Understand the test

Each skill module starts with how the task works: its parts, timing, question types and the four marking criteria.

Learn pages for Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening, with a guide for each question type we practise.

  2. Step 2

    Find the right practice

Filter by task, question family, question type, part, topic, level and what you have not tried yet.

Short tasks for one skill at a time, full-length practice tests, a 5-set Speaking Mock and a Mock Test.

  3. Step 3

    Get evidence-backed feedback

Feedback quotes your own sentence, names one thing to fix first and shows a corrected example.

Writing and Speaking reports use automatic, rule-based checks; any AI-assisted suggestion is labelled. Reading and Listening are scored against verified answer keys.

  4. Step 4

    Take the next step

Your dashboard suggests one next step and says why it was chosen. “Help with this” explains a rule, question or feedback where you are.

Your Teacher keeps track of patterns that recur across your work, and never invents a weakness.

Understand the format before you practise

Many marks are lost because a candidate misreads what a task asks. Each skill starts with a Learn page: the parts, timing, question types and, for Writing and Speaking, the four marking criteria.

  • Writing: Task 2 essays, Academic Task 1 charts, maps and processes, and General Training letters
  • Speaking: Parts 1–3, the cue card, the minute to prepare and how to extend an answer
  • Reading and Listening: a guide for each question type we practise, with a worked example and the common trap
  • Listening

    About 30 minutes

    4 parts · 40 questions

Each recording is heard once, and the answers come in the order you hear them.

  • Reading

    60 minutes

    3 passages · 40 questions

There is no extra time to transfer answers, so pacing matters.

  • Writing

    60 minutes

    2 tasks

Task 1 needs at least 150 words; Task 2 at least 250 words and carries more weight.

  • Speaking

    11–14 minutes

    3 parts

A face-to-face interview: short questions, a long turn, then a discussion.

Feedback grounded in your answer

Not just a number

Reports list what you did well, one priority with the sentence it came from, and a practice exercise. For Writing and Speaking the checks give criterion-by-criterion feedback, not a band — only Reading and Listening, scored against answer keys, carry a number.

  • Writing feedback: criteria notes, sentence-level corrections and a corrected version with only the detected errors fixed
  • Speaking: a transcript with highlights, pronunciation targets with model audio, and one fix first
  • Reading and Listening: each answer with its explanation and the exact words that support it

What you said

“Last summer I go to the coast with my cousins.”

Corrected

“Last summer I went to the coast with my cousins.”

Help with this

“Last summer” is finished time, so use the past simple. Next step: record the question again with that one change.

Plain facts

What you are getting during the private beta, in plain words.

It is

  • Original practice content written for this platform

It is not

  • An official IELTS test or score
  • Affiliated with or endorsed by the official IELTS partners

FAQ

Questions, answered

Everything you might want to know before you start.

No. MyEnglishPilot gives you practice feedback to guide your study: a practice estimate only for Reading and Listening full tests (scored against answer keys), criterion-by-criterion feedback without a band for Writing and Speaking, and a Reading starting level from the placement check. It is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by the official IELTS partners. Only an official IELTS test centre can give you a real, certified IELTS score.

Yes. Writing has Academic Task 1 visuals and General Training Task 1 letters, plus Task 2 essays for both. Listening and Speaking are the same in both modules. Reading has both: Academic passages, and General Training everyday, workplace and general-interest texts, including a full General Training test.

Not by default, and never only a chatbot. Feedback, the Teacher's “Help with this” and its quick questions come from automatic, rule-based checks, curated lessons, verified answer explanations and your own assessed answers. Speech is transcribed by a speech-recognition model running on our server. The optional AI Teacher — a free-text question box, “Help with this feedback” on a Writing report and an “Improve my answer” rewrite — is switched off unless the operator turns them on, and the question box is enabled per account. While they are off, there is no generative AI chat: the Teacher offers only its rule-based quick questions and the rewrite option is not shown. When they are on, a small AI model on our own server answers first; demanding questions, such as help with a Writing report, are sent to Anthropic's Claude, which receives the page context and your own answer for that question. Every AI reply is labelled with where it came from, can be wrong, and never gives a band or score.

The app itself, including every lesson, task and piece of feedback, is in English only, to keep you immersed. Vocabulary is the exception: each of the 404 topic words has a meaning in Persian, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and Russian, which you can show or hide. For 244 of them (the newer words) these are AI-assisted translations, checked by a second reviewer but not yet reviewed by native-speaker teachers, so treat them as a guide. Phrases and model answers stay in English.

Yes. The app is mobile-first and works in any modern browser, and it can be installed to your home screen as a Progressive Web App. You still need an internet connection to practise and get feedback.

Your account and everything in it stay. You can still open your reports, drafts, history and progress, download your data and delete anything, but starting new practice is paused. There is no payment during the private beta: the Monthly Plan is planned but not available yet, and the “Upgrade” button only simulates activating it so that practice continues, with no card charged. Because this is a private beta, we cannot promise permanent storage, so treat your work here as practice data rather than a permanent record.

Writing: structured, criterion-by-criterion feedback within moments on your response — strengths, the one priority with the sentence it came from, and a practice exercise; it does not give a band, because automatic checks cannot verify the accuracy, precision and range an IELTS band depends on. Speaking: your recording is transcribed and analysed on our server (then the raw audio is deleted) for transcript feedback (fluency & coherence, vocabulary, grammar) and pronunciation feedback (clarity, stress, intonation, rhythm) — also feedback, not a band. Reading and Listening are scored against answer keys; a full test also gives a practice band estimate, while a shorter practice set gives the raw score only. None of this is an official IELTS score.

Your details are sent to our server to sign you in or create your account, and your password is stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text. Rule-based feedback, speech recognition and generated audio run on our own server with offline software, and your recordings are never sent to an outside service. Only the Teacher's optional AI help, and the labelled AI-assisted suggestions in a Writing report, send the page context and your own answer text to a model — our own server first, Anthropic's Claude for demanding requests. Speaking recordings are deleted once they have been processed. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is stored, for how long, and the controls you have.
