On this page

This page explains what MyEnglishPilot — IELTS, PTE and Learn English, one account across all three — stores about you, how long it is kept and the controls you have. It describes the service as it works today, during its internal test stage (IELTS in private beta; PTE and Learn English in internal alpha), and will be updated whenever that changes.

What we store

Your account and profile

  • Your name and email address.
  • Your password, stored only as a one-way hash, so it cannot be read back.
  • Your role and access status, including your trial and access dates.
  • Profile choices such as your target band, test type, time zone and language, and where you last left off.
  • Sign-in sessions for the devices you use.

Your practice history and progress

  • Placement results.
  • Reading and Listening answers and scores, including full-length practice tests.
  • Speaking attempts with their transcripts, feedback, and timing and pronunciation measurements.
  • Your progress through lessons, and the words you choose to save to your vocabulary.
  • Your Teacher’s notes: patterns the automatic checks noticed across your assessed work, which can include short quotes from your answers.

Your Writing

  • Drafts, saved as you type.
  • For each assessed submission, the report and the exact text you submitted, so you can see what was assessed when you reopen the report.
  • Submissions that could not be assessed (too short, or not enough meaningful English) are recorded without their text.

Speaking recordings

  • To give Speaking feedback, your recording is uploaded to our server and transcribed and analysed there.
  • The server deletes each recording as soon as it has been processed, whether or not it could be used. When processing succeeds, its transcript, feedback and measurements stay with your account; the audio does not.
  • If a recording cannot be used (for example, it is silent, too short or too noisy) or processing fails, it is deleted straight away and you are asked to record a new answer.
  • If the server is too busy to start processing a recording within about 90 seconds, the recording is deleted and you are asked to record a new answer.
  • A recording that has not been processed yet (for example, while transcription is temporarily unavailable) is kept for at most 24 hours, and is deleted sooner if you delete your account.
  • Model-pronunciation clips of your own sentences are made when you press play and are not stored on the server.
  • If you choose to keep recordings for replay, those copies are stored only in this browser on this device, not on our server.

How your work is processed

  • Automatic checks. Reading and Listening answers are scored against answer keys, and Writing and Speaking get criterion-by-criterion feedback, by rule-based checks that run on the server that hosts the service. These checks never produce a Writing or Speaking band.
  • Speech and audio. Speech recognition, pronunciation analysis and generated audio run on that same server, using offline software. Your recordings are not sent to external AI services, and are deleted as described above.
  • Optional AI help. The Teacher’s quick questions are answered in your browser from what the page already shows, and nothing is sent for them. The AI Teacher is switched on by the operator, and its question-and-answer help is enabled per account. When it is on, your question (typed or chosen) and a plain-text summary of the page you are on (for example the lesson, the question, or your own feedback, which can quote your answer) are sent to our server, where a small model answers most questions. Demanding requests — “Help with this feedback” on a Writing report, the extra sentence suggestions added to an assessed Writing report, and questions the local model cannot answer in time — are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API. Anthropic receives that page summary and your own answer text for the request (for a Writing report, up to twelve of the sentences you submitted). Every AI reply is labelled with where it came from — our own server, Anthropic Claude, or “AI-assisted review” inside a report — and never gives a band or score. Spending on Anthropic is capped per day and per month; when a cap is reached, the Teacher falls back to its rule-based help.
  • What is logged. The question and the reply are not stored as a transcript. Each AI request is logged against your account as counts only (task type, which provider answered, token totals, time taken and estimated cost), kept for up to 180 days. If the local model fails and the request is re-routed, a shortened copy of the request and reply, with email addresses, links and long numbers masked, may be kept for up to 90 days for quality review; these copies are deleted when you delete your account. The optional “Improve my answer” rewrite of your saved answer runs on our own server only, and the rewrite is not stored.
  • The admin tools show account details (name, email address, role, access status and dates) so that access can be managed. They do not show your answers, recordings, transcripts or reports.
  • When email is enabled, your email address is used to send account messages such as password-reset links.
  • The app uses three cookies, all set by this site: one keeps you signed in, one protects forms against requests from other sites, and one remembers which product you were last using (IELTS, PTE or English Foundation) so that shared pages such as Settings can take you back there. That last cookie holds only the product’s page address, nothing about you, and is kept for up to a year. It uses no advertising or analytics cookies.

On this device

Your browser also keeps a few things locally: your theme choice, where you left off, the answers of a full-length test or Mock Test in progress, drafts you have not finished (such as the placement essay), and any Speaking replay copies you chose to keep. Signing out, or deleting your account, removes this learner’s in-progress answers, unfinished drafts and resume point from this browser. Replay copies stay until you remove them or clear this browser’s site data.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and practice history are kept for as long as your account exists. If your trial or access period ends, your saved work stays available to you.
  • Each assessed Writing report, including the exact text you submitted, is kept while the report and your account exist. It is not deleted automatically after a fixed period.
  • Sign-in sessions last up to 30 days. Password-reset links expire after 30 minutes.
  • Speaking recordings are kept only as described above.

Your controls

These are in Settings, under “Your data and privacy”, unless noted otherwise.

  • Download my data: a file with your account details, answers, transcripts, reports (including the text you submitted for each Writing report), progress and Teacher notes. Passwords and sign-in tokens are never included.
  • Sign out other devices: ends your sessions everywhere except the device you are using.
  • Delete a Writing report: reopen it from your Writing history and choose “Delete this report”. This removes the report, the text you submitted with it and the Teacher notes that quote it. Your editable draft is kept.
  • Other controls: remove a word from your saved vocabulary, or use “Reset my teacher profile” to clear your Teacher’s notes. Other practice records, such as Speaking, Reading and Listening attempts, are removed when you delete your account.
  • Delete your account: needs your password and the typed word DELETE. It immediately and permanently removes your account and learner data. That covers your profile and sessions, Writing drafts and reports with their submitted text, Speaking attempts, transcripts and feedback and any stored recording, Reading and Listening results, progress, placement, saved vocabulary and Teacher notes. Administrators’ records of access changes are kept, but your email address is removed from them.

Backups

The database is backed up regularly to private storage on the server. Data you delete may remain in these private backups until they expire under the normal backup retention period.

Practice estimates only

IELTS on MyEnglishPilot is an independent practice tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by the official IELTS partners. Every band it shows is a practice estimate, and only Reading and Listening full tests show one; Writing and Speaking get feedback, not a band. It is not an official IELTS score, result or certificate, and it cannot be used as one. PTE practice shows answer-key points and accuracy only, never a 10–90 score, and is not affiliated with Pearson. English Foundation gives practice guidance, never an official level.
